FAQs

How does a person get head lice?

  • Direct contact from one person to another
  • Contact with articles used by an infested person (such as hair brushes and combs, hats, baseball helmets, bedding, upholstery and other common items)

What are the signs of head lice?

  • Head scratching and intense scalp itching
  • Redness or small bite marks on the scalp
  • Swollen glands (located on the back of the neck near the ears)
  • Tiny gray adult lice on hair and scalp
  • Presence of nits on hair (white oval specks that look like grains of sugar)

Who gets head lice?

  • Head lice are most often found on school-age children.
  • However, lice infestation cuts across all social, economic and age groups.

What should be done when head lice are detected?

  • Infestation is easy to control if detected and treated before it spreads.
  • Don’t keep it a secret.  It’s not a social disgrace, nor is it a sign of any lack of cleanliness or personal hygiene.
  • Inform school or health authorities immediately.  They can inspect and treat others to prevent the condition from spreading.

What kind of treatment should be used?
A prescription medication is not necessary to effectively treat head lice.  Use a widely recommended non-prescription product such as A200 Lice Killing Shampoo and special lice comb, such as the A200 Lice Comb, Innomed Lice Comb or Nit GripperA200 is derived from a natural source, the chrysanthemum flower, and is effective in eliminating lice when used as directed.

How is A200 used?

  • Shampoo with A200 and leave on the hair for 10 minutes.
  • Rinse thoroughly with warm water and towel-dry hair.
  • Use a regular comb first to remove tangles.
  • Then use the special A200 Lice/Nit Comb (enclosed in every carton) or the Innomed Lice Comb to remove lice eggs from hair.  Schools that have a No Nit policy will not allow a child to return to the classroom until all eggs have been removed from the child’s hair.

Shampoo again in seven to ten days.
